A much-loved biennial event at Rainworth is Carnevale which embraces our Italian Curriculum. Held at the end of Term 1, children work on creating the masks they will present on the day as part of their art component. The task allows children to focus on fine motor skills as well as offering the opportunity to interact with their Buddies. For the senior classes, the decorating task draws on mathematical concepts and design.
Carnevale is also a fantastic platform for our Italian Captains and Ambassadors to showcase their skill in mastering the Italian language.
“I would like to congratulate Signor Ferranti and the staff for organising an excellent Carnevale. The students thoroughly enjoyed the morning festivities showing off their masks, singing Italian songs and speaking the Italian language. As always, Signor Ferranti does an excellent job with our Language Other Than English (LOTE) program, promoting the love of the Italian culture and developing language proficiency,” shared Principal, Mr Adam Mathewson.
Year 2 classroom teacher, Mrs Kate Swete Kelly, shared some student’s recounts of their experience. Elizabeth said “When I walked through the door I saw parents and kids. My Mum and Dad were looking at me. We got to sing in the Rainbow Singers. I was so proud of myself when I had finished my two songs. Thank you, Signor Ferranti, for making it a fantastic morning.”
Lucia shared “When I walked in straight away I saw everyone looking at me. I felt something in my stomach. When I went to the stage I was nervous, it was exciting! I liked everyone’s mask, the Rainbow Singers sang beautifully. The Year 3’s dance was amazing.”
The day was topped off with the children enjoying fine fare in the form of a special Meal Deal through Tuckshop, with food choices, of course, all with an Italian theme.
Rainworth’s Italian Embassy Diplomat, Signor Alfredo Ferranti, had this to say, “Ci vediamo al Carnevale nel 2016!” For the non-Italian speakers amongst us… “See you at Carnevale 2016!”
