The Rainbow Carnival is so much more than a school fete. It has become a much-anticipated annual community event on the last Sunday of August. The Carnival gets bigger and better each year and always has a great community atmosphere.
It has been held at our community park, Norman Buchan Park, at the foot of Queensland Government House hill for the past 11 years.
Families from the surrounding community enjoy a day of rides, feasting, shopping and entertainment.
The school parent body run every stall on the day. This involves about 20 stalls, including favourites; Gourmet, Cakes and Sweets as well as Handmade, Hoopla and Hot Dogs! Children always have so much fun using their all-day rides passes, while adults browse the plant and book stalls, before meeting at the Coffee Shop for lunch.
Of course an event like this takes months of organization and the school is involved in collections and making and baking in the lead-up to the Rainbow Carnival. A production of this scale not only raises a substantial and much-needed funds for school resources, but it also brings the whole community together.
Who Does What the team of parents and helpers who run this event know that there is nothing like the deadline of the Carnival to bring out the laughter and the tears, the best and the worst, the threads of life that tie us into one supportive community.
